Sapphic Love Tarot Collection
Change. Destiny. New Beginnings. Good Fortune. Life Cycles.
The Wheel of Fortune is the tenth card of the Major Arcana, associated with Jupiter, the planet of expansion, opportunity, growth and abundance.
At its core, the Wheel of Fortune represents inevitable change, shifting circumstances and the beginning of a new chapter. It's that moment when one chapter of your life is ending while another is beginning, whether you're ready for it or not.
Its upright meaning represents positive change, good fortune, unexpected opportunities and the possibility of a lucky break. The wheel is turning, and something new is coming. Sometimes we can feel that shift approaching, while other times life changes direction without warning.
The Wheel reminds us that nothing in life is permanent. The highs and lows are temporary, what goes up must eventually come down, and even the most difficult chapters will eventually come to an end. Just as good fortune can change, so can hardship.
Its shadow side lives in resisting change, fearing the unknown, losing control and fighting against the natural flow of life. Sometimes we hold onto familiar situations, relationships or versions of ourselves long after they've stopped serving us, simply because we don't know what comes next.
But not every ending is a loss. Sometimes it's making room for something we haven't experienced yet.
The wheel is turning. An old chapter is closing, a new one is beginning, and your next chapter might be closer than you think.
Part of Sapphic Love, an original queer tarot-inspired art collection celebrating identity, connection, transformation and the beautifully complicated nature of being human.
For this illustration, I wanted to capture that moment between endings and beginnings, when life is shifting and the future is still unknown.
A modern queer persona stands overlooking a mountain landscape, facing an enormous celestial wheel. Her position represents the uncertainty of what comes next, but also the possibility of something better waiting beyond the horizon.
The wheel represents fate, life's continuous cycles and the changes we can't always control. The moon phases symbolize beginnings and endings, while the zodiac symbols reflect time, destiny and the forces that influence our journey. The snakes represent transformation, renewal and the shedding of what no longer belongs in our next chapter.
The mountains symbolize life's challenges, while the winding river represents the natural flow of change and the path ahead, even when we can't see where it leads.
Inspired by traditional tattoo art, linocut illustration and contemporary queer culture, the bold black linework, charcoal details and deep crimson accents create a darker interpretation of destiny, transformation and possibility.
For me, the Wheel of Fortune is about accepting that life doesn't always go according to plan. Sometimes everything changes without warning, and sometimes the very thing we thought was an ending turns out to be the beginning of something better.
You can't stop the wheel from turning. But you never know what good fortune the next turn might bring.
