Original Queer Tarot-Inspired Illustrative Art Print
New Beginnings. Freedom. Adventure. Possibility.
The Fool is the first card of the Major Arcana, numbered 0 to represent unlimited potential, new beginnings and the possibilities that exist before us.
Associated with the free-spirited energy of Aquarius, The Fool represents independence, curiosity, spontaneity and the courage to embrace the unknown.
At its core, The Fool is about taking a leap of faith. It's the excitement of starting something new, stepping outside your comfort zone and trusting yourself enough to move forward, even when you don't know where the path will lead.
Its shadow side lives in recklessness, naivety, impulsiveness and the tendency to overlook potential consequences. There's a fine line between courage and carelessness, and The Fool reminds us that freedom doesn't mean ignoring the risks. It means understanding that uncertainty is part of the journey.
Sometimes the greatest adventures begin when we stop waiting for certainty and start trusting ourselves enough to take the leap.
Part of Sapphic Love, an original queer tarot-inspired art collection celebrating identity, connection, transformation and the beautifully complicated nature of being human.
The Artwork
For this illustration, I wanted to reinterpret The Fool through a modern, independent and slightly rebellious queer persona. With her tousled hair, piercings, tattoos and relaxed streetwear, she stands at the edge of a cliff, face tilted toward the sky, embracing the unknown with confidence, curiosity and just a little recklessness.
Her loyal Labrador represents companionship, instinct and protection, while the bundle over her shoulder symbolizes travelling lightly and embracing new beginnings. The cliff edge and distant mountains reflect the risks, challenges and possibilities ahead, while the red flowers and celestial details represent growth, intuition and hope.
Inspired by traditional tattoo art, linocut illustration and contemporary queer culture, this piece explores the beauty of taking chances, trusting yourself and stepping outside your comfort zone.
For me, The Fool isn't about being naive or having nothing to lose. It's about knowing life is unpredictable and choosing to experience it anyway.
Sometimes the greatest risk isn't taking the leap. It's never finding out where it could have taken you.
